Why more of the same?

Why do we continue to be sucked into the same old?

There has to be a better way of delivering good government. Other countries do not suffer the policy blunders that we have endured over the years costing the taxpayer billions of pounds.

The problem is our Party system creates governments where people with similar views and outlooks band together. There are no contrary opinions to challenge decisions.

Remember:

  • Margaret Thatcher and the Poll Tax?
  • Tony Blair and the NHS National Programme for IT?
  • Gordon Brown and the deregulation of banks?
  • Andrew Lansley and the NHS reforms?

All have one thing in common – none were effectively challenged and there was a minimum of deliberation before committing to a course of action. And all too often there is no accountability when things go wrong.

Government is the only sphere of life where decisions are made this way and it affects us both nationally and locally. Apolitical offers a different way. We are a local group of independents with differing points of view but who share a belief in collaboration not confrontation, transparency not obfuscation. Good decisions are arrived at when they have been thoroughly deliberated and challenged. Our candidates will provide that environment of independent challenge unimpeded by party diktat.
